Learn to Lead Climb – Indoors
3 X 2.5 hour evening sessions (Dates to be agreed with climbers)
This course is aimed at people with some prior experience of top rope climbing indoors and want to progress to lead climbing.
Pre Requisites
Ideally A minimum of 12 months climbing experience and able to climb on top rope comfortably at Grade 5/6A
Syllabus
• Understand the inherent risks involved with lead climbing.
• Practice lead belaying with a range of different devices, including assisted braking devices.
• Understand the principles of making an appropriate route choice.
• Mental preparation before setting off.
• Efficient lead climbing, identifying key holds, rests and challenging sections.
• Use of leader placed and in situ quick draws.
• Effective communication between leader and belayer.
• Falling, holding a fall and lowering to the ground.
• Understand the different ropes and equipment suitable for lead climbing including their wear and handling characteristics.
